Will I run out before the weekly reset?
Divide the percent you've used by the percent of the week that's gone. Over 1.0, you run out first.
Our Claude Max week, 2026-09-27: 77% used with 60.5% of the week gone. Pace 1.27. At that rate we hit 100% on Tuesday about 4 AM, roughly a day and a half before the Wednesday 4:00 PM reset.
Pace calculator
Type the numbers from /usage (Claude) or /status (Codex). This runs in your browser; nothing is sent.
How the math works
- Find the window start. Reset time minus the window length (7 days, or 5 hours).
- Percent of the window gone = time since the start ÷ window length.
- Pace = percent used ÷ percent gone. 1.0 means you'll land on exactly 100% at the reset.
- When you'd hit 100% = start + time so far × (100 ÷ percent used).
| Window, 2026-09-27 9:35 PM PDT | Used | Window gone | Pace | At this rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Claude weekly (Max) | 77% | 60.5% | 1.27 | 100% Tue 3:56 AM; reset Wed 4:00 PM |
| Claude 5-hour | 12% | 25.2% | 0.48 | Doesn't run out; reset 1:20 AM |
| Codex weekly (Pro) | 23% | 20.5% | 1.12 | 100% Fri 4:54 PM; reset Sat 11:08 AM |

When each window resets
Claude (Pro and Max)
Two limits: a 5-hour session and a weekly limit, plus a separate weekly limit for some models. Each shows its own reset time in Settings > Usage on claude.ai and in /usage (Anthropic). Claude Code also hands statusline scripts resets_at as Unix seconds (statusline docs). Claude and Claude Code share the same limits.
Codex (ChatGPT plans)
OpenAI describes usage per five-hour period and says "weekly limits may also apply"; the usage dashboard and /status show current limits and reset times (OpenAI Codex pricing). Codex writes each reading, with resets_at, to ~/.codex/sessions. On 2026-09-27 our Pro plan reported a weekly window only.
Method
- Machine: MacBook with Apple M5 Max, macOS 26.5.2. Claude Code 2.1.283 on Claude Max; Codex CLI 0.157.1 on ChatGPT Pro.
- Readings: Claude's official percentages and reset times as reported to Claude Code, and the newest
rate_limitsevent in the Codex session log, both read at 9:35 PM PDT on 2026-09-27. - Math: the straight-line formula above, the same one the calculator and claude-usage-check use. The command's source is about 450 lines of Node with no dependencies.

Limits change, and threads like anthropics/claude-code#16157 and openai/codex#14593 show people running out faster than they expected. Recheck your pace after a heavy session, not once a week.
Questions
Will I run out of my Claude weekly limit before it resets?
Divide the percent you've used by the percent of the week that has passed. Above 1.0 means you are on pace to hit 100% before the reset. Example from 2026-09-27: 77% used with 60.5% of the week gone is a pace of 1.27, which reaches 100% about a day and a half before the reset.
When does the Claude weekly limit reset?
At a fixed time shown under Weekly limits in /usage or in Settings > Usage on claude.ai. Ours reset on Wednesday at 4:00 PM PDT. The 5-hour session window has its own reset time, shown in the same place.
When does the Codex weekly limit reset?
Codex logs a resets_at time with each reply's rate_limits and shows it in /status. On 2026-09-27 our ChatGPT Pro plan reported only a weekly window, resetting Saturday at 11:08 AM PDT.
Is a straight-line pace accurate?
It's a warning, not a forecast. Real use comes in bursts, and limits can change. It tells you whether your average so far would run out before the reset.
What Usage HUD is
A Mac menu-bar app that shows how much of each Claude, Codex, Gemini, Grok and Ollama window you've used, when it resets, and a label on every number: official, measured, estimated or unknown, with a one-line reason. The Claude number comes from the same endpoint /usage reads. The app never refreshes or changes your login token. Codex numbers come from the rate_limits events in your local session logs.
Which number is right
Each bar says where it came from and how old it is, so a stale or estimated number doesn't pass as official.
Pace, not just percent
It compares how much you've used with how much of the window has passed.
Stays on your Mac
No Usage HUD account and no analytics in the app. A public README badge is opt-in.
What it costs
Mac app
Free
Tip jar: $5, $9 or $19, optional. Signed and notarized by Apple.
- Your Mac: macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon or Intel.
- Claude and Codex: Claude Code or Codex signed in. Nothing else to install for those two lanes.
- Gemini and Grok: those lanes need Node.js 18 or later.
- Local models: the local lane reads your Ollama logs.
Free, no app

claude-usage-check is a free, MIT-licensed command. It runs once in your terminal, reads the same local files, and prints which number is official and when each window resets. It doesn't upload anything.
