Where SessionWatcher is better
- A 7-day trial without a card, if you want a paid app that covers more tools.
- Many more tools, including Cursor and Copilot, which Usage HUD doesn't track.
- Warnings before you hit a limit.
- Pro licenses cover up to 5 Macs, synced through iCloud.
Where Usage HUD is different
- A confidence label on every number, and a doctor command that explains when one can't be trusted.
- Ollama and other local models next to your paid plans.
- Free for all five providers, no tiers, with an optional tip.
- A read-only MCP server and command line are built in, so your agents can ask which plan has room. Agent docs.
Which one should you use?
If you use Cursor or Copilot, want pre-lockout alerts, or track one tool, SessionWatcher is the better fit. Usage HUD fits people on Claude plus Codex, Gemini, Grok or Ollama who care most about knowing whether each number is official.
Questions
How much does SessionWatcher cost?

Does Usage HUD have a free trial?
Usage HUD is free to download, so there is nothing to trial. The free claude-usage-check command also shows the same official numbers in your terminal.
What Usage HUD is
A Mac menu-bar app that shows how much of each Claude, Codex, Gemini, Grok and Ollama window you've used, when it resets, and a label on every number: official, measured, estimated or unknown, with a one-line reason. The Claude number comes from the same endpoint /usage reads. The app never refreshes or changes your login token. Codex numbers come from the rate_limits events in your local session logs.
Which number is right
Each bar says where it came from and how old it is, so a stale or estimated number doesn't pass as official.
Pace, not just percent
It compares how much you've used with how much of the window has passed.
Stays on your Mac
No Usage HUD account and no analytics in the app. A public README badge is opt-in.
