Watch the Claude Max 5-hour window from the Mac menu bar
Max 5x ($100/mo) and Max 20x ($200/mo) still reset on a rolling five-hour session plus a weekly all-models cap. Paying more does not put those numbers in the menu bar. The usual check is still /usage inside a session.
Usage HUD is a native Mac meter for that gap. Claude sits next to Codex, Gemini, Grok, and Ollama if you run them. Every number has a confidence label, so a stale reading is marked stale instead of looking current. If you only need Codex, CodexBar is free and you do not need this.

The download is a notarized disk image. Drag Usage HUD to Applications, open it, then click Set up.
- Your Mac: macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon or Intel.
- Claude and Codex: Claude Code or Codex signed in. Nothing else to install for those two lanes.
- Gemini and Grok: those lanes need Node.js 18 or later.
- Local models: the local lane reads your Ollama logs.
Tips are optional and go through Stripe. Free first: claude-usage-check shows which number is official. If CodexBar already works for you, you may not need this.

Does Max remove the 5-hour window?
No. Max raises the ceiling. The 5-hour session and the weekly cap still exist. Anthropic documents both on the Max plan help page.
Where do the numbers come from?
The same usage endpoint Claude Code’s /usage panel reads. Usage HUD does not refresh or change your Claude token to get it.
Is this instead of CodexBar?
No. CodexBar is a strong free Codex-first meter. Usage HUD is for people who want Claude, Codex, Gemini, Grok, and Ollama in one panel, with a reason on every number.
