ccusage vs Usage HUD

ccusage stopped tracking Claude. Codex still works.

That split is the tell. ccusage is a log reader. When Claude Code changes where it writes session files, Claude goes quiet and Codex — a different log — keeps filling in. Reinstalling ccusage does not fix an endpoint it never called.

Usage HUD does not parse Claude’s log for plan limits. Claude numbers come from the same usage endpoint as Claude Code’s /usage panel. It does not refresh or change your token. Codex still comes from local session logs, labeled as such. Every reading has a confidence label so a missing Claude log is not shown as a live bar.

If ccusage already shows you what you need, keep it. If you only need Codex, CodexBar is free and you do not need this.

When to use which

ccusage

Free, terminal-first, great when the local transcript path is stable. Breaks when Claude Code moves or stops writing the files it expects. That is a log problem, not a plan-limit problem.
